The Shiv Gita is a significant text of Vedantic Śhaivism, derived from the Uttara Kānda of the Padma Purāna. In this narrative, Lord Shiva serves as the teacher, while Śhri Rama assumes the role of the disciple, with Suta Rishi as the narrator. Lord Shiva imparts essential teachings on Bhakti and Jnana Yoga to Shri Rama.

Synopsis of Shiv Gita:

The Shiv Gita commences with an episode from the Rāmāyana, portraying Rāma's despair following Sītā's abduction. Sage Agastya visits Rāma during this time, recommending that he undertake a special vow known as the Pāśupata vrata. By adhering to this vow, Agastya assures Rāma that he will gain a vision of Lord Śiva and receive the Pāśupata astra (weapon), which is essential to defeat Rāvana. After observing the vow for four months, Rāma experiences a divine vision of Lord Śhiva, who bestows upon him the Pāśupata astra. In return, Rāma poses a series of questions to Lord Śiva, and this dialogue constitutes the essence of the Shiv Gita.
